Chengdu "Home of the Pandas"

City introduction

Located on the edge of the fertile plains of the Red Basin in Sichuan Province, Chengdu is sometimes called the "Land of Milk and Honey." It's a vibrant city that maintains local character, despite its quick development and designation as a major transportation hub. Many foreigners are drawn to the city located in the west of China for its relaxed pace of life and easy access to travel destinations such as Tibet, Yunnan and the rest of South East Asia.

The city is known to Chinese people as being home to some of the nation's most delicious food, and as such, foodies from all over come to enjoy the local fare.

It's a great place to make new friends. Many of our teachers get together to visit many of the stunning natural beauty the area has to offer.

To get around the city, teachers can choose to use public tranportation like the brand new metro system or take a taxi, the rate of which starts at 6RMB -- less than $1!

In 2014, Chengdu was listed on Fodor Travel Guide's Top 25 Places in the World to Visit.

City Statistics

What makes Chengdu unique?

Travel! Yellow Dragon National Park, perched in a high mountain valley, offers invigorating adventure options. The ambitious can trek to Lhasa, go whitewater rafting or embark on multi-day river journeys. Alternatively, a five-mile trot brings you to five terraced, temple pools glowing with stunning hues
Food! When people think of Chengdu, they immediately think of hotpot -- and it's as fantastic as everyone says! There are many varieties for you to try, so if you don't like spicy food, there will still be something for you.

Leisure! Chengdu is famous for its strong affinity for leisure and enjoyment. From traditional teahouses, theaters to modern pubs and clubs, people here know how to enjoy the night.

Pandas! The endangered species Giant Pandas are a mainstay of the city and its people. The research base is one of the most beautiful attractions in China thanks to its design inspired by nearby Sichuan countryside.
