Job Description

High School ESL Teacher Opening

High School ESL Teacher Opening

One part-time native teaching position for English conversation students at a prominent private junior-senior high school will become available starting on April 1st, 2017. This is a position where you can continue to work indefinitely. We need teachers who are responsible, outgoing, and good team players. Being able to speak with some Japanese language low-level proficiency, having some teaching experience, a college degree, and living in the Osaka, Wakayama, or Nara areas are required. Class sizes are small, usually around 12 students but up to around 25 students. Teachers are required to create lesson plans, give speaking as well as written tests and grade their students. A Japanese national teacher will be available as an assistant for classes. Extra duties include speech contest preparation and helping with essay editing.

Work hours are set by the teacher themselves, depending on the class schedule (set by the school but input by the teacher considered). In general, a work week will be about 34 hours a week, from 8:55 am to 3:20 pm, yet each daily and weekly schedules will vary slightly. All national holidays are off. Weekends, except for about 3 days a year, are also off. Paid vacation periods are extensive! Vacation and holiday periods total about 80 weekdays.

The salary is based on the number of regular classes scheduled. You will normally have between 13 to 16 of these. The income includes the monthly base salary, travel expenses and 2 annual bonuses. Therefore the base salary per month (11,650 yen per class) would normally be between 151,450 yen to 186,400 yen. This means that your annual base salary will be from 1,817,400 yen to 2,236,800 yen.

Regular healthcare and retirement compensation provided in conjunction with school.
