A project in Vietnam needs volunteers to practice English with university students. The students are English language majors in northern Vietnam. Many become teachers, translators or work in tourism. The project has two streams: speaking practice and writing practice.
Volunteers can either practice dialogue with students or give students help and feedback on their writing. One group of volunteers practice English on Skype with students once a week for 45 to 60 minutes. Another group of volunteers give students feedback on written English. The project is free to the students. The project is based at Thai Nguyen University about two hours north of Hanoi. The project begins in March and ends in June. It requires volunteers interested in sharing conversation and writing and learning about Vietnamese culture. The students are intermediate level learners and most conversations are about Vietnamese culture and the culture of the native speaker's country. The Vietnamese students are adept at digital technology but seldom have the opportunity to practice with a native or fluent English speaker.
