The Job

We are now holding interviews for English teachers to teach 6 to 15 year olds at our public schools in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen and the vibrant Chinese capital of Beijing. If you are a dynamic teacher, have an interest in an authentic Chinese school setting and can deliver learner centered, engaging lessons then we are interested in speaking with you.

Teachers use the communicative approach to language teaching with various student interactions encouraged in class such as group work, pair work, role plays, project work as well as more traditional teaching methods to add variety to the classes and help create a fun and relaxed learning environment.

All new teachers will receive training on arrival and will be introduced to the school and teaching methods. Teaching materials and resources are provided by the school and are targeted to the age of the students being taught. Materials follow the Chinese national school curriculum and focus on developing all four skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Teachers are encouraged to adapt and supplement the materials where need be to ensure classes are engaging and interesting.

Classes are held during the day time from Monday to Friday, with a maximum of 14 hours of teaching per week, so you have evenings and weekends off.

Beijing
Teach English in Beijing and immerse yourself in the traditions of ancient China while also being a part of the exciting changes of a city on the cutting edge of modern culture. Beijing continues to be an exciting place for all things music, fashion and art with plenty of events and shows to attend. There is a thriving expat community in Beijing, with the Sanlitun area being a popular destination for both expats and trendy locals to mix and mingle over drinks.



Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province, on the eastern shore of the Pearl River Delta. Neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong (located just south of Shenzhen), the location gives it a geographical advantage for economic development. In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in Shenzhen. From then on, Shenzhen become a highlighted city of China, one known for its rapid economic growth.

Shenzhen is considered as one of the richest cities in the country which offers foreigners a great insight into contemporary China. From a small fishing village 30 years ago, Shenzhen has turned into a city filled with dynamic energy and on its way to becoming a world class metropolis. Shenzhen is also known for its famous architecture, bars, restaurants, art scenes and shopping areas.

Main Responsibilities
o Maximum teaching hours of 14 hours per week
o Monday to Friday classes (8am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm) with evenings and weekends off
o Deliver learner centered, engaging lessons to students
o Ensure equal participation of all students
o Complete all administrative tasks in a timely manner
o Actively participate in professional development workshops and activities
o Attend school activities, parties and other events

Compensation
o Excellent salary: 9,000 to 11,000 RMB (1,300 to 1,600 USD) per month for teachers with less than 1 year teaching experience
o Excellent salary: 10,000 to 12,000 RMB (1,400 to 1,700 USD) per month for teachers with 2 years teaching experience OR 1 year teaching experience and 120 hour TEFL
o Free accommodation provided by the school shared with another teacher OR housing allowance of 2 to 3,000 RMB per month for Shenzhen / up to 4,000 RMB for Beijing
o Flight allowance of 5,000 RMB (2,500 RMB provided after first week and 2,500 RMB provided after first semester)
o 4,000 to 8,000 RMB end of contract bonus, based on performance
o Over 3 months of holidays including all national holidays and 2 months during summer (paid at 50% with no housing allowance)
o Legal Z work visa provided and assistance with all the visa paperwork
o Social and business insurance provided
o 2 free meals per day provided on the school campus
o Dedicated office staff to facilitate life in China and communication with school
o Airport pickup and work and life orientation on arrival
o Teacher training and professional development provided
o 120 hour TEFL course provided if needed
o Chinese lessons provided

o Opportunities for extra part time work if required

Requirements
o Bachelors degree
o TEFL certificate (No TEFL? We recommend INTESOL, est. 1993, 50% discounts: www.GoldStarTeachers.com/INTESOL)
o Native English speaker from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland
o Teaching experience preferred but not required as we provide full training
o Fluency in oral and written English
