Karl
To any teachers that are planning on working in Taiwan in the future.
Hi,
My name is Karl. My girlfriend Suzie who is Welsh, and I who am Australian, were in a dilemma of what to do 6 months ago. She had just completed her teaching degree in Australia. We were in the unenviable position of needing to find and secure a teaching job for both of us overseas within three weeks before her Australian visa expired.
Luckily for us as we trawled the Internet we met Mickey at Dewey. Within hours he had responded to our e-mail, and within days he had organised both of us a teaching position within Taiwan. It was almost surrealistic, but 2 weeks later we were in Taiwan, at the airport, and greeted by Mickey.
If you have never travelled within an Asian country it is almost impossible to imagine how extremely complicated even the simplest transaction can be. Therefore, I cannot stress how easy Mickey made our transition from living in Australia to teaching in Taiwan. Not only were we picked up from the Airport, but he took us to a hotel, then personally organised our school interview and drove us to the school, translated the interview, and helped us with contractual details. He even helped us find and move into a very pleasant apartment.
Mickey was also incredibly useful at helping us navigate through the bureaucratic minefield that is known as working permits. I cannot imagine how an English speaking person could not only apply for a working permit but understand all of the subtle reasons why the government that desperately needs English teachers puts barriers in their path for obtaining a permit. Once again Mickey was extremely versatile in his ability to manoeuvre our paperwork to get work permits and ARC's.
Just as an aside. Neither Suzie or I had any knowledge about Taiwan before we moved here. It was a small island on the globe. Taiwan is beautiful. It's people are friendly., and you feel safe. If you love nature, I think it has natural beauty that far surpasses anything I have ever seen in Australia. Suzie and I have travelled right across Taiwan. It is easy to travel and get away from people and be surrounded by astounding gorges, islands and beaches. it really is Formosa.
I highly recommend teaching in Taiwan, exploring it's hinterland, and contacting Mickey for support.
Best wishes,
Karl

To whom it may concern:
Mickey Hou, worked as my agent for one year. I recommend him, without any hesitation, for future educators in Taiwan. He is more than qualifying, due to many reasons; He has a good reputation with the schools, he goes out of his way to make people happy, and he communicates clearly having lived in California for eight years.
While working in Taiwan, I often relied on Mickey to help with situations through the school. Taking care of signing the contract, translating it into English, and negotiating the terms of the contract was of great importance upon arriving in a foreign country. Not only did he assist in all educational matters, but he also went out of his way to assist in personal matters as well. Communicating to the landlord, helping to get a scooter out of the pound, and organizing trips are just some of the ways he lends a hand to the foreign teachers. His caring nature, resourcefulness and ability to see from a foriegners standpoint really made his work with me meaningful.
When I first came to Taiwan Mickey was able to process our ARCs, health insurance, and VISAs in a timely manner. I worked in Hsinchu, but he came from Taichung to handle all the processing. He even picked up and delivered the forms to us after the processing was handled.
During my time in Taiwan, Mickey was an effective communicator, often serving as my liason to faculty members. He also coordinated trips to see parts of Taiwan involving numerous foreigners and Taiwan teachers. His ability to work collaboratively, while guiding so many new teachers, quickly and effectively was outstanding. For example, when we first signed our contract there were many foreign teachers starting to teach in Taiwan and the agents were needed all over. Mickey was pre-occupied with other newcomers, but came late at night to tie all loose ends and get us settled in to our new school and home. He even met us on our first day to introduce us to everyone and show us around. He works very long hours and is more than dedicated to his teachers.
Mickey's sensitivity, diligence, energy and sense of humor made working with him a joy. I highly recommend him as an agent for any incomming foreign teachers.
Sincerely,
Erica A. Dumm

To Whom It May Concern.
My name is Robin I have been working in Taiwan teaching English for 4 years now.
I am writing this letter on behalf of my agent Mickey Hou. I used to tend to shy away from agents on there reputation alone but then I met Mickey.
Working with Mickey has opened many doors that I never had a chance to before. Besides the opportunities working with Mickey has brought to me, he has also been a great help with normal day to day life in Taiwan. From opening a bank account to getting my A.R.C Mickey and his co-workers have been behind me 100%.
In this line of work personality goes a long way and Mickey's is top notch. It is always great to have great people working for you and Mickey is definitely that a great diligent agent that will do everything in his power to help you too. If it is your first day in Taiwan or your fourth year like me, I highly recommend M
