Oxford Language Center (OLC) has been a leader in the best quality English language instruction in Guatemala City since 2004. We offer a unique opportunity to gain ESL teaching skills, exams preparation training, and knowledge of English language strategies that schools all around the world value and seek in their teachers. OUR PROFESSIONAL PROMISE
We offer a 10 month renewable contract as a full-time teacher earning a base salary of Q7,500 ($970) for 125 contact hours per month working Monday to Saturday, with the option of earning Q60 to Q80 ($8 to $10) per hour for any hours you work above and beyond this base contract.
OLC teachers have varying schedules, with classes scheduled between 7am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturday.
OUR IN-HOUSE TEACHER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
A valuable benefit to working with OLC is the training you receive, that will help your marketability around the world. Over the course of your contract, you will receive an Oxford Language Center 100+ hour Teaching English and International Exam Preparation Course including:
- 1,250+ hours of small group and one-to-one instruction in English language and the most popular and prestigious exams taken by students around the world, like the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT.
- 40+ hours of self study with provided materials to continually improve your comfort and effectiveness in the classroom.
- 10+ hours of observed classes with practical feedback and demo classes with OLC staff to try new skills.
As part of OLC, you can also take, free of charge, our training courses on Test Prep Math (for the SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT, 120 hours total) and our College Admissions course (how to help students get into the best programs for their futures and how to win scholarships, 30 hours total). Finally, you will participate in student preparation for the the internationally-recognized Cambridge English exams, including the important administration and logistical considerations in carrying out successful, school-wide initiatives.

OUR CULTURAL IMMERSION PROMISE
You are living in Guatemala and we want you to be able to take full advantage of your time here. We have a dedicated team leader focused on making your time in Guatemala as personally rewarding as it is professionally rich. We include 3 hours of Spanish classes a week so you can confidently navigate your new surroundings. For when you want to explore other parts of the country, there are a number of national holidays and time to travel. Finally, we will support you in the visa renewal process, a key part of Guatemalan expat culture!
