About our school:
The Compass Institute is a small, private English language institute serving the city of Puerto Montt – the gateway to Chilean Patagonia. Our mission is to provide the highest quality English instruction to the hardworking community of Puerto Montt.
Puerto Montt is a lively port city looking out to the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by snowcapped volcanoes. Here in the lush Lakes Region of Chile, you will find delicious seafood, welcoming southern Chilean culture, charming architecture, and breathtaking natural wonders.

About the position:
- Teach individual and small group classes (up to 4 students) to children, youth, and adult learners of all levels
- Working schedule from Tuesday through Saturday (Sunday and Monday are free days)
- Approximately 20 hours of instruction per week with additional hours for planning and staff meetings
Compensation and benefits:
- Base salary paid monthly
- Training and professional development

Minimum requirements:
- CELTA or Trinity certificate (or other accredited 120-hour TEFL certificate with live teaching practice)
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Native English speaker
- Able to arrive in Puerto Montt, Chile in May
- Able to commit to an 8-month contract (May – December)
You must be able to:
- Work closely with a small team of colleagues
- Teach all levels and age groups, as assigned
- Create a safe and dynamic learning environment for students
- Plan engaging lessons and continually assess students’ progress
- Ask questions and actively seek help when needed
- Be observed, receive and implement advice for improvement, learn new skills
- Adapt to challenges with an open mind and positive attitude
An ideal candidate will also possess:
- At least a basic level of Spanish
- 1 year + English teaching experience
- A passion for helping students achieve their goals
- A genuine interest in cultural exchange and being a part of a community
