English and Education Capacity Building Advisors (BUR-T-2061)
Exciting new roles for those wishing to extend their skills in English teaching and teacher training
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The aim of TREE is to improve the quality of teaching of teacher educators and teachers and academic oversight of management staff in Teacher Education Institutions and Department of Teacher Education and Training to achieve the impact of learning improvements of students in Myanmar especially for English language. .
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY
To support education reform in Myanmar as set out in the Myanmar Government National Education Sector Plan (NESP) by:
Planning and delivering quality English language teaching and continual professional development training and activities for teacher educators working in Myanmar Education Colleges in order to:
§ develop the teacher educators’ English language proficiency
§ support the continued professional development, reflective practice and action research skills of the teacher educators
§ support the implementation of the new teacher education curriculum
§ support the reform of teaching practice (practicum)
§ support the mainstreaming of inclusive practice particularly around disability inclusion
Note that the role will require working embedded in education colleges, some of which will be situated in quite remote locations, possibly with intermittent supply of electricity and other utilities. Post holders will need to be resilient, self-sufficient and able to tolerate ambiguity.
TREE Project English and Education Capacity Building Advisors will be based in 25 locations, some quite remote. The present list of EC locations includes: Yankin (Yangon); Thinganyon (Yangon), Bogolay, Pathein, Mawlamyine, Taungoo, Mandalay, Meikthila, Monywa, Sagaing, Magway, Pakokku, Taunggyi/PaO, Myitkyina, Hpa’an, Hlegu, Myaung Mya, Lashio, Pyay, Dawai, Kyauk Phyu, Katha, Hakha, Kyaing Tong and Loikaw.
WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT IT
You will be supporting delivery of a large scale and high-profile donor funded contract. support education reform and improving the quality of teaching and learning in Myanmar. contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of innovative pilots using technological solutions working with a range of diverse international and local partners.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
To be considered for this post you will need:
§ At least certificate level TEFL qualification and/or PGCE equivalent with ELT/TESOL specialization.
§ At least 4 years post-certificate/qualification i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL teaching and/or 3 years training experience of which 1500+ hours should have been gained from teaching English proficiency to adults
§ Experience of teacher training in a state school, developing world context.
§ Primary and secondary level teaching experience
§ Experience building and developing teams
