Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico
University position with attractive benefits (annual bonus, savings plan, pension, healthcare, five weeks paid holiday) in southern Mexico.
Qualifications: Native-English speakers only. Successful applicants will have a first degree.
TESOL/TEFL Certification and Spanish ability are plusses but not required.
Location: Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca. Half hour by car from the beach at Corralero.
Wage: Approximately $13,500 MXN per month net, which is a very competitive local salary. Please note that the net monthly salary does not include the annual bonus (one month’s salary after tax) or the annual savings fund payment (approximately 3,000 pesos per month of employment).
How to apply: Email your resume and cover letter to uncoshiring@gmail.com
Other benefits include an optional fund-matching savings plan in which one twelfth of the monthly salary is taken out each month and matched by the university. All the money from the contributors is put into a savings account and each July the money is paid out. At that time the employees receive more than two months’ pay plus a share of the interest accrued, apart from their regular July pay. There is also a Christmas bonus equal to about one month’s pay, so in a sense, the university pays over 15 months’ salary a year.
Employees are registered in the Mexican Social Security program. This covers general health and emergency care, and there is limited dental coverage as well. Social Security also runs a housing scheme and teachers earn points towards a housing loan. There is also a social security daycare center for those with small children.
Additionally, the university pays into a government sponsored pension plan (AFORE), similar to the US 401K pensions, and provides life insurance. The university has five weeks paid vacation a year. Two weeks are at Christmas time, one week at Easter, and the other two weeks are in mid-July. There are also various national holidays, providing for long weekends throughout the year. It is possible to obtain permission for an extended summer holiday (unpaid).
