Job Description

Primary Pre-school Positions for International School

Raffles American School (RAS) aims to inspire pedagogical change across Asia by combining research-driven approaches with teacher-inspired implementation strategies. We are a truly student-centered school, which sets us apart from schools that teach to the test and laud rote memorization from textbooks.

Each student at RAS is encouraged to find their own path, utilizing their individual intelligences. Teachers are expected to nurture this process by creating an inspirational and supportive learning environment. RAS administration, encourages the utilization of each teacher’s unique talents and education strategies. This is not a school where teachers will feel laden with bureaucratic paperwork. This is a place of learning, where innovative teachers can thrive and contribute to the foundations of the new school.

Set amidst the suburbs of Bangkok, RAS is a new, modern campus located in Bangna, not far from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and about 10 minutes from the Udom Suk Sky Train. There are many Western restaurants and large shopping malls, but without all the traffic and pollution of downtown Bangkok. An apartment in Bangna will range from 5k-15k THB per month.

Raffles American School is a member of the Raffles Education Group, Ltd., a global leader in education, from preschool to graduate school. Raffles has been building schools around the world for 30 years, so you can be assured that we maintain standards of quality. Raffles American School is a Candidate for Accreditation, approved by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In the coming years, we will open up to Grade 12 and offer AP courses approved by the College Board. We are also planning to add an IB diploma program in the coming years. We still have many acres of land to expand our facilities.

We have a diverse population of students from all over the world with different learning needs. Most of the students are from affluent families, but our reasonable tuition prices allow for the emerging middle class to attend an international school. Some students will be coming from the local school system, while others will be coming from a school with Western education standards. Those students that do not meet our minimum English requirements will be taught in separate “sheltered-content instruction” classrooms until they are ready to be mainstreamed.

As most of our 400 students are new to the school, teachers will need to differentiate their teaching strategies to accommodate students' various educational backgrounds, while still centering the classes around the same targeted learning outcomes. Raffles American School follows Common Core Standards as grade level learning objectives while using WIDA testing to measure English growth, and MAP adaptive assessments to measure individual improvement.

To accommodate our growing student population, we are currently recruiting for multiple teachers. Applicants should be a state licensed elementary educator. Equivalent credentials are accepted, but these must be transferable to above listed American credentials, e.g. QTS. Note that a Masters or PGCE without QTS is not considered equivalent to an American teaching license or QTS in the international school job market. Candidates without these credentials will not be shortlisted for homeroom teacher positions, but they may be considered for some Special Subject positions or Language positions. Note that the salary posted is based on the expected starting salary of American-licensed Homeroom Teachers.

Positions commence on the 15 July 2021, with the 16th of August being the first day of class. Working hours are from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Teachers should have approximately 18 contact hours per week. Class sizes usually have 10 to 18 students. Each class will have a teaching assistant to help provide ample break time for homeroom teachers during the day. There are approximately 179 school days each year, yet teachers are paid in full every month, including summers.

Candidates meeting our qualification requirements and will be reimbursed for airfare to Thailand after they commence teaching, and return airfare upon completion of their contract. Visa and work-permit expenses will be reimbursed by RAS. Medical, accident, disability, and life insurance are also provided. RAS has a helpful and welcoming team of professionals to support our teachers.

To apply, please send your resume to recruitment@ras.ac.th. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. For more information about our school, please visit ras.ac.th
