Online English Teacher (independent Contractor)
As an Online English Teacher (Independent Contractor), you will conduct online English lessons via Zoom for Japanese children aged 5 to 18.
Students are assigned on a weekly fixed schedule, allowing you to build long-term relationships and support them in achieving their learning goals.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct online English lessons (weekly fixed schedule, 25-minute lesson) and trial lessons
- Prepare partially customized lesson plans based on each student's goals and proficiency level
- Provide lesson feedback and assign homework after each session
- Effectively utilize and adapt designated teaching materials
- Maintain accurate student and lesson records
- Record lessons when requested (for quality assurance purposes)
- Perform academic and administrative duties as required by AtoZ Corporation
- Participate in teacher meetings, paid training sessions, and information sharing
- You are expected to accommodate student-requested rescheduled lessons when necessary
- The number of assigned lessons may increase or decrease depending on student enrollment

Working Hours & Holidays
Available Working Hours
Minimum availability: 2 days per week
- Weekdays: Between 16:00–22:00 (JST) *ie. 07:00–13:00 British Summer Time
- Saturdays: Between 14:30–17:00 (JST) *ie. 06:30-09:00 British Summer Time
- Minimum 2 hours per working day (negotiable)
High-demand time slots:
- Weekdays: 17:00–20:00 (JST)
Lessons are scheduled on a fixed weekly basis. (Except for trial lessons)
Holidays
- Every Sunday
- Summer break (holiday period: August 13th & 14th 2026)
- Christmas Day
- New Year's holiday (January 1st - 3rd 2027)
- As this is an independent contractor position, paid leave is not provided.
- Time-off requests must be submitted at least one month in advance.
- In case of illness or emergency, please notify us as soon as possible.
Work Location
Fully remote (online position)
A stable internet connection is required:
- Minimum 10 Mbps download
- Minimum 5 Mbps upload
Teachers are responsible for providing their own equipment and maintaining a secure working environment, including:
- Updated software
- Password protection and two-factor authentication
- Compliance with our privacy protection guidelines
Requirements
Ability to fulfill the contract period (minimum 1 year)
Strong work ethic, cultural awareness and sensitivity
Native-level English speaker with a standard accent
Prior experience teaching children (5-18) in learning settings
If currently working as a teacher or in another teaching position, confirmation that outside work is permitted
Stable internet connection and suitable remote work environment
Business casual attire during lessons
