We are looking for a bilingual, dependable, responsible and detail oriented individual to help plan and execute education projects in communities in Quepos on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is looking to launch their career running community programs and assisting communities in need for help in education and to get REAL on the ground EXPERIENCE. This position reports directly to the Program Manager in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Our GVI Quepos programs are set in the provincial town of Quepos, nestled between the Costa Rican Pacific Ocean and the tropical rainforest.

Responsibilities

Oversee curriculum design - Develop educational curricula in line with schools' needs, schedules and volunteer abilities.

Work with manager and school administrators to develop new programs as needed, including sports, arts, science/environmental practices, English and other.

Train volunteers in teaching skills, classroom mgmt, lesson planning, as well as using your curricula.

Manage and support volunteers during project & preparation time, and at the volunteer house

Oversee adult English programs and curriculum.

Enforce our health and safety regulations

Supervise volunteers and direct programs in local schools

Assist manager in supervision and mentoring interns within our program.

Liaise with local partners as well as local, and national collaborators.

Provide administrative support to the Program Manager -- including report writing, accounting, updating documents and web text, maintaining blogs, social media and more

Translate, interpret and facilitate communication in Spanish and English.

Organize and participate in fundraising activities for special projects at schools.

Qualifications Required

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English. Applicants MUST have fluent Spanish; all communication with schools and community members is in Spanish.

• Experience managing and working with people

. Willingness to work collaboratively with the community program team

• Able to work as part of a team, but also a self starter

• Able to provide leadership

. Degree in education or equivalent academic/teaching experience, ideally at elementary level

• Willingness to accept basic communal living and work flexible hours, including evening duty and weekends as needed

• Passionate about teaching and working with children

• Basic computer skills (MS Office etc)

Qualifications Desired

TEFL Instructor certification and/or extensive TEFL teaching experience

Current First Aid & CPR certification
