Hours of work: We are looking for teachers for July and August. The overall teaching timetable runs from 09.00-17.40, Monday-Friday, but personal timetables for individual full-time teachers vary between these hours. The normal maximum contact time for a full-time teacher is 28 lessons a week although there may be the opportunity to work up to 40 lessons per week.
Main duties and rates of pay: For General English teaching, most if not all the teacher’s contact time is spent with students on courses. Per 50-minute lesson we pay £14.75 for newly qualified teachers with a degree and CELTA, £15.15 for teachers with a degree, CELTA and two years of experience, and £15.70 for teachers with a degree and DELTA or equivalent.
Other duties (these are specified in detail in the Teachers’ Guide):
Registers and Record-keeping:Teachers must maintain accurate records of attendance and work.
Planning, preparation, marking, checking: You must liaise with other teachers, plan and prepare lessons, and submit work plans in advance to the DoS. Homework must be set and corrected. Classes must be given a progress test every week by designated teachers, and every two weeks students must be counselled on an individual basis, with results recorded on the Student’s Record Card. You may be asked to check end-of-course tests and to write reports on individual students. You are expected to make full and regular use of the multi-media facilities.
Teachers’ meetings and staff development: You are required to attend weekly lunch-time meetings (principally for dealing with administrative matters), and Teacher Development (TD) meetings.
Social programme: You can take part in the Social Programme (there are extra payments for this).
