Instituto de Lenguas Extranjeras ILE USFQFull-timeESL/EFL Teachers Needed in Ecuador, South America - ASAP
The Instituto de Lenguas Extranjeras ILE USFQ is currently seeking qualified EFL teachers for our 3 campuses (Ambato, Santo Domingo and Riobamba). Candidates must be able to start ASAP.
ILE has been in operation for more than 13 years, is part of Ecuador’s top ranked University Universidad San Francisco de Quito (but managed independently), and is considered to be one of the most effective English learning institutes in Ecuador. We have just concluded a major restructuring effort and have recently implemented a series of important changes, aligning ourselves to the main international ESOL standards. Namely, becoming a Cambridge Examinations Exam Partner and using the Oxford University Press English materials.
ILE offers EFL classes to both kids (7 and up) and adults.
The qualifications we ask for are: native speakers with a minimum Bachelor’s degree in any field of study (alternatively, two years teaching experience) and a TEFL/CELTA/TESOL or other related certificate. Must be a native English speaker.
Preference is given to teachers who are able to make a minimum one-year commitment.
ILE is offering one of the two schemes:
Scheme 1
$9.50 hourly pay. Payment for teachers depends on course load (each class represents approximately 30 contact hours per month)**;
Guaranteed at least 2 courses per month (each class is 2 contact hours per day); up to 4 classes, daily;
ILE will cover the cost of the Ecuadorian work visa and all legal and notarial services (around $700 USD per year)
ILE will also provide support in terms of relocating to Ecuador (opening a bank account, tax and accounting advice, etc.);
Access to discounted medical insurance with BMI international insurer (this is optional and the cost of the insurance itself is supported by the teacher);
1-week off every two months;
A high immersion experience in Ecuador with the possibility to move across ILE campuses nationwide (depending on available vacancies);
Access to a wide academic network and the possibility to actively participate in community projects.
Permanent teaching position offer after 18 months (depending on performance and commitment).
Minimum one-year commitment.
**minimum salary under this scheme is $525 net per month (with a 2-course load) and it can reach upwards of $1,050 with more classes assigned.
Alternatively, each candidate can choose to pay for his/her own visa and earn a better per hour pay:
Scheme 2
$11 hourly pay. Payment for teachers depends on course load (each class represents approximately 30 contact hours per month)*;
Guaranteed at least 2 courses per month (each class is 2 contact hours per day); up to 4 classes, daily;
ILE will provide necessary legal assistance related to the visa process (the cost of the visa itself, notarial costs and direct legal fees are entirely the candidate’s responsibility. However, ILE will allow for deferred payment, upon the teachers request);
ILE will also provide support in terms of relocating to Ecuador (opening a bank account, tax and accounting advice, etc.);
Access to discounted medical insurance with BMI international insurer (this is optional and the cost of the insurance itself is supported by the teacher);
1-week off every two months;
A high immersion experience in Ecuador with the possibility to move across ILE campuses nationwide (depending on available vacancies);
Access to a wide academic network and the possibility to actively participate in community projects.
Permanent teaching position offer after 18 months (depending on performance and commitment).
Minimum six-months commitment.
*minimum salary is $570 net per month (with a 2-course load) and it can reach upwards of $1,200 with more classes assigned.
ILE has an extremely dynamically-effective approach to teaching EFL while using the Cambridge English methodology and has created a fun, family-like atmosphere to work and study.
Riobamba is the capital of the Chimborazo province. It is a high-altitude city, rather old and with an important indigenous population. It is a regional transport centre (you have the Andean railroad passing through the city) and it is in close proximity of the Chimborazo volcano. ILE has had a presence in Riobamba for more than 13 years; it is the ILE training hub, with a big teaching team and its campus is located in the city centre (in a historical building). ILE can provide a furnished suite for teachers (on campus) for the first month.
Ambato is a high-Andes provincial capital with incredibly beautiful spring-like weather year-round, it’s a relatively affluent city with quite a lot of industry. It is spread out. In terms of attractions, Ambato is close to the Baños mountain spa; the Tungurahua volcano is close by as well.
Santo Domingo is 3 hours away from Quito and only 1.5 hours away from the coast (beach towns). It has a lovely subtropical climate and boosts a growing economy. It is quite different from other high-altitude cities in that it reflects a more coastal/tropical culture.
At ILE we have two programs; kids and adults/general. Teachers’ duties would consist of working Monday through Thursday from four to eight hours each day with one-week vacation after almost every two-month cycle of teaching. ILE also offers an environment where teachers are supported in their professional development with workshops (in-house training and workshops organized by International House Quito and Oxford University Press Ecuador). Teachers would begin working by the end of April, beginning of May.
