ESL Jobs in Thailand Teach English in Thailand
Thailand, one of the most popular destinations in SE Asia for tourists and 'backpackers'. Thailand is a country full of natural beautiful, from the beautiful beaches on the islands in the South of Thailand, the tropical rainforests, the bustling capital Bangkok and the hilly scenery and the hill tribes in the North of the country. Thailand is a relaxing place where teachers can live comfortably while treaching English.
With the large hordes of backpackers in Thailand, looking at staying in the country longer they fill many of the low labour positions working short stints at the language schools. While TEFL/TESOL qualifications are not required, it is best to have along with experience to put yourself above this segment of the English teacher jobseekers. If not you may have less positions for jobs outside of the busier tourist spots, such as Isaan in the North East of Thailand.
If you do have TEFL/CELTA qualification you will find it much easier to find employment teaching English in Thailand. You may be able to find a position at an international school, which pay much higher and have better resources available than the Government schools, but also may require a proper teaching certificate or substantial experience Positions are also plentiful at the private language schools, which can be found in all major cities in Thailand, however these are normally filled with backpackers rather than career TEFL teachers. Conditions can be poorer and there can be problems with the arranging of proper visas etc.
Wages for teaching Thailand vary on the type of school and your experience/qualifications. At the international schools or the bilingial/trilingual schools you could command a wage of 40-80,000 Baht per month. At one of the private language institutes plan on somewhere between 20-40,000 Baht per month. Living expenses are very low in Thailand, especially if you are working outside of Bangkok, expect to be spending around 15,000 Baht per month on living expenses.
