Switzerland is a landlocked Alpine country in Western Europe. This small multi-lingual country, of a little over 7.5 million people, has four national languages, German, rench, Italian, and Romansh.
Switzerland is one of the most difficult countries to obtain a woking visa for in Europe. Especially if you do not have an EU passport it is near impossible, albeit marrying a Swiss local (many ESL teachers working in Switzerland have married to a Swiss first, and then later started their ESL profession.) For the EU passport holders the situation is a bit better and easier having an initial 3 month period that you can work or search for work. Bear in mind though living expenses in Switzerland are very high, meaning if you are there looking for work, make sure that you have enough funds to last for the 3 months it may take to find a job.
There are many private language schools, teaching business professionals and children, in most major cities with many of them located in the capital Zurich. The best months to look for work is January and September. The teaching week is around 20-30 hours per week. Monthly salary ranges from 300-1,000 EUR, with living expenses very high ar 300-900 EUR. You will be expected to have a college degree as well as TEFL/TESOL certification, experience or CELTA will be look upon very favourably.
